Killarney Motorbike Track Day in Cape Town

Finally! After all these years, I've ridden a race track on my weekly commute. The freedom to ride without worrying about busses, potholes or oil spills on the road. I think two things - I'm glad to have thoroughly enjoyed it slightly past the usual comfort zone and lived to tell the story, and also because it's pretty much as others say, you learn from it and come out a more knowledgable rider.

The groups are fast, medium and slow - all first timers go in the slow group (only one with lessons).

4x 20 minute track sessions. Between each session, there is an advanced driving school lesson.
Groups are paced at different times in 20 minute per hour intervals, so it's like clockwork.
Overtaking is restricted to straights and the outside of corners, so you can hug the inside in peace.

Look for, "Motorcycle Track School": wpmc.co.za/upcoming-events

Ducati Panigale V4 Releases and Hits The Track

The new, superbike benchmark setting Ducati Panigale V4 is here! It comes in the V4, V4 S and V4 Speciale. Looking at the Ducati website, it seems the only difference between them is 1kg, a few KWs/HP, colours and price - ranging from R280k, right up to R650k!

Its 1103 cm3 displacement produces a whopping 214 Horse Power (Speciale 226 HP) and is set to be the boss of super sports bikes. Ducati says, "It marks a new and important chapter in Ducati's history, a "symphony"of performance and emotions that's 100% Italian."

Enjoy it's first lap around Mugello in the video above and here are some pics from these guys:

BMW S1000RR Bus Stop Activation in Cape Town

I'm a fan of motorbikes and Cape Town. This is a very clever activation at a bus in Cape Town to showcase the BMW S1000RR, capable of doing 0-100km/h in 3 seconds, "blink and you'll miss it".

Motorbike Ride Around Cape Town

When you're feeling like a lazy Sunday morning, there is no better way to enjoy it than a motorbike ride in the areas surrounding Cape Town to rid the weeks traffic tyre lines. Plus some GoPro testing.

We've gathered some additional footage since this, but will post more once I get more video mounts.

Red Bull: Trick Bikers Hit South Africa

French motorbike trials rider, Julien Dupont is Red Bull's, "Jozi Sessions". To be honest, the video is more scenery and posing then insane skills, but it's nice to find Red Bull's extreme sport monkeys doing their thing in South Africa. Looking forward to the Masters of Dirt at Cape Town Bike Festival!

Brian Capper, South African, Supermoto and trials bike champion recently set out to ride over the arch of Durban's, Moses Mabhida Stadium. Nuts, given the fact that his head is much higher from being on a bike, the ±350m ground cover is a narrow stretch of steps and some points are insanely steep.

Toy Run 2011 Pictures

The Toy Run, a mass gathering of bikers to raise toys for children over the festive season. Today I enjoyed my 5th ride in Cape Town, starting from Ottery, thousands of bikers rode to the festivities in Maynardville, high-five'ing bystanders alongside the road. At the end of the ride, toys are given in, beers are consumed, bikes are perved over, merchandise is bought, live music is heard and people of all kinds are generally having a good time. Dirt build up in nostrils is to be expected  :)
Check out some pictures below!

Motorbike Drifting and Stunt Riding

French stunt rider, Jorian Ponomareff just put the biggest smile on my face during this video. We have all seen guys dancing around their bikes whilst up on the back wheel spinning in circles and they are impressive stunts, but drifting around cones is in a league of its own. Cool camera work, banging beat and an all round awesome video with over 1.5 million views in the first week.

Ducati 1199 Panigale Superbike

The new Ducati 1199 Panigale is a whole lot of bike and the first Ducati superbike with a name; normally just numbers, such as 998, 1098, 1099. The name is pronounced "Pan-ee-gah-lee" and if you ever come up against one at a traffic light, unless you're packing, best you knock over your king and accept "Checkmate".

Beast!

A short quote from the site, "In calculating the optimum configuration to achieve the next big step forward in power output for the L-twin engine, Ducati and Ducati Corse engineers increased engine speed and enhanced breathability with the incredible bore and stroke of 112mm x 60.8mm. The intense study of power and ridability resulted in an output of 195hp @ 10,750 rpm." The new Superquadro engine is lighter and produces more power, which sounds about right for Ducati's innovative technology and Italian brains. The site is packed with content, check it out!
