How To Solve A Rubik's Cube

I learnt how to solve the Rubik's Cube in 2022, just a small personal goal as I found the puzzle intriguing. I didn't know what I was in for, especially after seeing videos online that claim it can be solved with a single move. After practice and getting familiar with the cube, I've finally memorised the algorithms and can now solve it in under 2 mins. It's challenging to learn, but great when you get it.

I found many of the videos online quite long-winded, so I created a document of each step to solve the Rubik's Cube that can be printed and followed, accompanied by this video for visual reference of the moves and algorithms, which I think is an easier way to learn how to solve it.

Find my notes here: How To Solve The Rubik's Cube and have fun learning the 8 steps.

Greyton and Elgin New Year Summer Holiday

For our December holiday we decided to break away from the norm and spend 4 nights on our own in the country. We chose Elgin and Greyton as our destinations for their proximity to Cape Town, but mostly for their small town, good wine and good vibes feel. Quality surroundings with tranquility.

We visited the Elgin Railway Market, which was nice and over New Years we stayed 8kms outside of Greyton at Oewerzicht, which was amazing and is perfectly suited to couples, groups and families.

Franschhoek Wine Tram

As locals, it was lekker to experience the Wine Tram in Franschhoek on our minibreak. Along the way we visited Rickety Bridge, Moreson, Eikehof, Paserene and Le Lude the next day. We love Franschhoek, go there often and really enjoyed our first wine tram, bus and tractor rides.

Baltic Cruise on Royal Caribbean in Summer 2019

Decided to venture far north this time to Scandinavia, we sailed from Stockholm, Sweden to Russia onboard Royal Caribbean's Serenade of the Seas. We spent two nights in port at St Petersburg before heading to Helsinki, Finland and then onto Tallinn, Estonia. The final stop was Visby, Gotland, whereafter we spent two nights in Stockholm. Days stretched to 11pm with sunlight, it was amazing.

Meet Andy - Our Adopted Dog From The SPCA

On the 11th of March 2017, we adopted Shilo from the SPCA at a guestimated 6 months old. Shilo being roughly 6 months old when we met him had spent half his life at the SPCA animal shelter. He was labeled a wirehair terrier cross. Some vets think he's mixed with a white shepherd and I'd say his temperament matches. Shilo was renamed Andy and is now an integral part of our family.

This video is to document his growth from adoption to the even more adored 1 year old Andy.

We really respect all the hard work the SPCA, and all other dog rescue non-profits do for beautiful dogs and animals without a home. Welcome to our lives Andy, part 2 in the making...

Cruise From China Around Japan - Royal Caribbean

We boarded a cruise from Shanghai, China. Sailed the next 6 days on a remarkable experience around the south west coast of Japan to Sakaiminato, Fakoaka and Kumamoto on Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas. A technologically unique cruise ship with the world's highest view point at sea, skydiving and robotic barmen. After the cruise we spent one night in central Shanghai.

Snow Skiing in France

I was extremely fortunate to be invited to snow ski in France in January 2017. I stayed at Chalet Hotel La Foret in Peisey Vallandry with my father and friends at a ski-in, ski-out resort (right on a slop), which was awesome as there was no need to travel to and from the hotel to ski lifts each day. Paradiski has over 425 km's of slopes between Les Arcs, Peisey Vallandry and La Plagne and an extensive network of ski lifts and gondolas which makes getting between valleys a breeze.

The trip was absolutely amazing, sub zero degree temperatures and all. We had good snowfall just before we arrived so the pistes were perfect. I took the GoPro with and managed to rack up over 70 gigs of footage, which was a lot to sift through, so I ended up creating two videos, a summary video (above) and a slightly longer one (below) which has more skiing action on the slopes.

Misverstand Dam Year-End Holiday @ Club Elani

I've been going to Misverstand Dam since I was 7 years old, "paradise close to Cape Town for outdoor and water-sport enthusiasts", as my pops describes it. Our caravan and boat live at Misverstand and we usually camp right next to the water and jetty. I was only there for 3 nights this past December and it was the first time taking my GoPro. Loads of mounting options seen for future.

Misverstand Dam is located off the N7, just past Moorreesburg heading away from Cape Town.

Meerendal MTB Trails

This is my forth mountain biking video made in the Tygerberg area and includes drone footage from my friend Stefan, who got some really cool aerial footage. The trails and flora are particularly awesome this time of year, I'm glad I waited to make the video until now. Whether you like relaxed single trail or fast downhill riding, Meerendal has it all, including a pump-track.

Bloemendal Mountain Bike Trail

Bloemendal Mountain Bike (MTB) Trails are a definite favorite within the Tygerberg Mountain Bike Club's network. Bloemendal offers brilliant single trail for all levels of riding and it's central for linking up with Hillcrest, Contermanskloof and Majik Forest. Bloemendal is also home to the club's weekly Thursday night ride. In this video I cover both upper and lower trails of Bloemendal cycling along: Rooikat, Bloemendaaler (Bloemslang), B-Spot and the newly upgraded Lombard's Terra. My ride includes the new Bluegum trail on Upper Bloemendal and the gap jump on Lombard's Terra.
